Reflecting on One Year: Jordan Evenson
One Year of Awesomeness: Jordan Evenson's Fun-Filled Journey at the Chamber!
Join us as we dive into the laughter, surprises, and triumphs of Jordan's first year at the Chamber. Don't miss her insider stories and quirky moments!
1.What was the "aha" moment that made you realize you belonged at the Chamber?
Well during my very short stint as a stay-at-home mom, I was sent the Chamber job listing by three different people... on the same day. Knowing I wanted to pull my weight as well I just submitted my application not thinking anything of it. To my surprise I landed an interview and in doing so met with Katie and Justin. Honestly I thought it was pretty awesome that Katie had red hair. The Chamber was so welcoming and understanding that I had a small child at home and that I didn't have care right away so we set a date for me to start working and honestly that just sealed the deal for me. My last job was tricky when it came to having a child at home and not as understanding, so knowing I landed a flexible job that allowed me to be so creative it felt like home.
2. Can you tell us about a day at the Chamber that made you laugh the most?
Well, there is a never before seen Tik Tok draft of Katie and I doing a goofy skit... I think that was a pretty fun day, maybe one day we will post it! But in all honesty there been so many moments that could apply to this, just having a fun job getting to know people in the community, getting to be creative, and being in such a great work environment is just great. There probably isn't a day that we aren't having fun or laughing.
On another note -- in all the Borderline Chalkfest chaos planning we forgot it was even my first anniversary with the chamber! That was a good laugh too.
3. What has been the most surprising thing you've learned about yourself in this past year?
I think I really run off adrenaline and other people's energy. Every event I did I truly thrived off of communicating with everyone. I also learned that in a tense situation I work really well and am able to continue to be positive. For example, the Borderline Chalkfest 5k Color Run, the sirens were going off and the police were telling us to seek shelter, Katie and I made the decision to stay outside until every runner was off the course. Even as people were running through the finish line I was cheering them on through pouring rain, sirens, wild wind, and continuing to evacuate everyone to safety. I learned a lot through that experience.
4. If you had to describe your first year at the Chamber in three words, what would be and why?
Busy. Fun. Energetic.
5. What project or event from the past year are you most proud of, and what made it special?
This is a tough one! You know probably building up the WBChamber Tik Tok. Reaching a new target demographic and having a fun outlet that's for our community has just been really fun.
6. How has your work at the Chamber changed your perspectives on the local business community?
I think I've realized that I don't need to go to other towns to get things. Most items I need or want or gifts, etc, I can find right here in town. Plus being able to get to know the small local business owners makes me feel like I am making a difference by shopping locally. You get so much more out of local businesses that you just realize when you dont shop locally.
7. What's a fun or unexepected way you've celebrated a success at the Chamber?
I think the best way we've celebrated a success has been after events Katie and I will sometimes go out to eat together and discuss the success or event at hand.
8. Who has been your go-to person at the Chamber for support, and how have they helped you?
Of course I'd have to say Katie, she's my boss but if there's anything I need a perspective on it would definitely be Katie. Especially when it comes to learning how to help build up our community or the local businesses.
9. What's one quirky habit or routine you've developed while working at the Chamber?
I'm not sure if it's quirky, maybe weird though! But I've started collecting magazines with Ads in them I like the design of, also I diligently watch digital signs for cool fun ideas.
10. What's something funny you've done?
Well fun fact -- I attend several monthly meetings that involves the City of Wahpeton and the CVB and several other committees. Several of these meetings I was in attendance alongside the Mayor, but somehow never caught his name or I did but never put the dots together... So one day after a business spotlight with the Ambassadors I needed names of the people in the pictures for the Daily News and had to ask Justin who this one guy was. You guessed right it was the Mayor of Wahpeton and I had no idea. It's still up for debate if I'm blonde or a redhead!
