Meet an Ambassador: Annette VanHovel!

Annette VanHovel, a lifelong local and Twin Towns Ambassador, is passionate about supporting small businesses, community service, and family. She lives on a farm near Campbell with her husband, Troy.

1. Can you share a bit about your background and how you first got involved with our organization?

I grew up in Wyndmere, but have lived around here almost my whole life. Currently, I live near Campbell on the family farm. I first got involved with ambassadors when my boss sent me the Chamber Newsletter and I read the ad for the ambassador program. I've worked at St. Francis for 20 years and thought it would be nice to have some representation on the Ambassador Team from St. Francis. I've always tried to keep my business local because growing up in a small town, you never know what you need until it's gone.

2. Beyond your role with the ambassadors, what are your personal and professional passions?

Professionally, I absolutely love my job and for that reason, it's not a job. Every day is more of an adventure to see what I can learn new. Personally, I'm very passionate about my family. I'm married to Troy VanHovel and we have 3 adult kids and 6 grandchildren from 7 years old to 4 months old that we love to spend time with.

3. What inspired you to join the TTA, and what motivates you to contribute to our organization’s success?

I was inspired to join The Twin Town Ambassadors by seeing them supporting all the local people in their adventures. Owning a small business is not for the faint of heart. It takes a leap, lots of hard work and energy. I love seeing people succeed and supporting them to do so.

4. Do you have a favorite memory or accomplishment during your time with the TTA??

I've only been an ambassador for one year, so no favorite memories yet. But I do look forward to making them!

5. What advice would you give to someone considering joining, or getting more involved in community service?

Community service is something that I feel is not only our privilege, but an obligation. Selfless giving of one's time and energy is something I feel anyone can do. It takes only a small amount of time and effort.

6. Share a fun or interesting fact about yourself that most people might not know.

Most people don't know that my husband and I met in 2001 on Match.com. We grew up only 35 miles from one another and never knew each other.
